  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract can substitute almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt can substitute sea salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour for structure

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, then mix in salt and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add flour, stirring until the mixture forms a crumbly yet cohesive dough.
  4. Press the dough into the prepared baking pan to about ½ inch thickness.
  5. Dock the dough by pricking it 36 times with a fork and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and fragrant.
  7. Cool the pan for 5 minutes, slice into rectangles, and allow to cool completely.
