Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the sweet maple sausage over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl until smooth.
  4. Layer half of the cubed bread in the baking dish, followed by half the sausage, egg mixture, and cheddar cheese. Top with half of the blueberries and pecans, if desired. Repeat layers.
  5. Allow the casserole to sit for 15-20 minutes at room temperature.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown and set.
  7. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving, drizzling with additional maple syrup if desired.
