Step-by-Step Instructions for Patty Melt
  1. Thinly slice onions, heat skillet over medium-low heat, add butter, and cook onions for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Form ground beef into thin patties larger than bread slices and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. Increase heat to medium-high and cook patties in skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and juices run clear.
  4. Lower heat to medium, spread butter on one side of each bread slice, and toast butter-side down for 2-3 minutes.
