Step-by-Step Instructions for Copycat Olive Garden Breadsticks
- In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water with 2 ¼ teaspoons of active dry yeast and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Allow to sit for 5 to 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of salt, and ¼ cup of softened unsalted butter until well combined. Add the yeast mixture once frothy and stir until a shaggy dough forms. Knead for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl and cover. Let rise for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 12 to 14 pieces, rolling each into a 6-inch rope. Position on a lined baking sheet.
- Cover breadsticks with a towel and let rise for another 20 to 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Bake breadsticks for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Melt ½ cup of unsalted butter and mix with 2 teaspoons of garlic powder and a pinch of salt.
- Brush the baked breadsticks with the garlic butter mixture immediately after removing from the oven.
