Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Turkey Apple Chili
  1. In a large pot, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add diced apples, sliced carrots, and sweet potatoes, stirring gently. Season with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, rubbed sage, and cinnamon. Cook for about 5 minutes until vegetables begin to soften.
  2. Add the ground turkey to the pot, breaking it up. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until it is no longer pink and begins to brown.
  3. Stir in 2 tablespoons of tomato paste and 1 tablespoon of chili powder. Combine thoroughly and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and strained tomatoes, stirring well. Reduce heat to low-medium, and let it simmer for 20 to 30 minutes.
  5. If including kidney beans, add them during the last 5 minutes of simmering. Stir well to combine.
  6. Once thickened, remove from heat. Ladle into bowls and enjoy warm.
