  • 2 tablespoons Rum Optional
  • 1 pinch Salt
Dumplings
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour Ensure it's fresh
  • 1 tablespoon Baking Powder Do not substitute with baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 pinch Salt Enhances flavors
  • 4 tablespoons Butter Must be cold
  • 1 cup Buttermilk Can substitute with whole milk mixed with vinegar or lemon juice

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 180°F.
  2. In a large pot, combine water, pure maple syrup, optional rum, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. In a food processor, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Pulse until well combined.
  4. Add very cold butter to the food processor and pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal with pea-sized lumps.
  5. Pour in buttermilk while pulsing until just combined.
  6. Drop dollops of dumpling dough into the simmering sauce.
  7. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  8. Transfer cooked dumplings into an oven-safe dish to keep warm.
  9. Serve warm, drizzling extra sauce on top.
