- In a large bowl, combine yellow cake mix, instant vanilla pudding mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water (or plant-based milk). Beat until smooth.
- Melt butter in the prepared pan; sprinkle brown sugar over it. Arrange pecan halves decoratively over the mixture.
- Pour the batter over the pecan layer, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 35 minutes for a square pan or 45 minutes for a bundt pan. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
