Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until blended. Set aside.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar for 3-5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg, vanilla, and peppermint extract to the creamed mixture and mix until combined.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough and color one half with red gel food coloring.
  6. Chill both dough halves for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Layer the colored dough on top of the plain dough and roll into a log.
  8. Chill the dough log for 2 hours.
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare baking sheets.
  10. Slice the log into rounds and bake for 8-10 minutes.
