  • 1 tbsp White Wine Vinegar Apple cider vinegar works as a substitute.
  • 0.25 cup Water Omit if sauce is thick enough.
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch Arrowroot powder or flour can be used as alternatives.
For the Topping
  • 1.5 cups Gruyere Cheese, grated Swiss cheese is a great substitute.

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Slice the medium yellow onions thinly and layer them evenly at the bottom of your 6-quart crock pot.
  2. Arrange the frozen meatballs on top of the sliced onions in the crock pot.
  3. Combine the beef broth, brown gravy mix, garlic, black pepper, thyme, white wine vinegar, and water in a bowl, whisk until smooth.
  4. Pour the sauce over the meatballs and onions, cover, and cook on high for 2½ to 3½ hours or on low for 5 to 6 hours.
  5. Whisk together cornstarch and ¼ cup of water, then pour it over the meatballs and stir gently.
  6. Sprinkle Gruyere cheese over meatballs, cover, and cook for an additional 10 minutes on high until cheese has melted.
  7. Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles, or use toothpicks for appetizers.
