Ingredients

For the Cabbage
  • 1 head medium green cabbage The star ingredient; choose medium green cabbage for the best texture.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter Adds a rich creaminess to the sauce; feel free to use plant-based butter as a dairy-free alternative.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Perfect for sautéing; you can swap it for any neutral oil, like canola or avocado.
For the Sauce
  • 1 medium yellow onion Provides sweetness and depth; be sure to finely chop it for even cooking.
  • 3 cloves garlic A key flavor enhancer; use minced garlic for maximum impact.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Creates a luscious, silky sauce; for a lighter option, try reduced-fat cream or alternative creamers.
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese Offers umami and creaminess; freshly grated is ideal for the best melt.
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning Brings a delightful hint of heat; you can also substitute with Creole seasoning or spicy paprika.
For Seasoning
  • to taste salt Essential for flavor enhancement; add to taste.
  • to taste pepper Freshly cracked adds a nice bite; again, adjust according to your preference.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley Gives a pop of color and freshness; use it for garnish.

Equipment

  • Large Skillet

Method

Cooking Instructions
  1. In a large skillet, combine 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Allow the butter to melt completely, creating a shimmering surface in the pan—this should take about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Carefully add the cabbage wedges to the skillet. Sear each side for 3-4 minutes until they are golden brown and slightly caramelized. Once done, remove the wedges from the skillet and set them aside.
  3. Lower the heat to medium and add the finely chopped yellow onion to the skillet. Stir and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the onions are soft and translucent.
  4. Add 3 cloves of minced garlic and 1 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning into the skillet. Stir for about 1 minute to allow the garlic to become fragrant.
  5. Pour in 1 cup of heavy cream, scraping the bottom of the skillet to lift any browned bits. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Stir in 1 cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth. Add 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley.
  7. Return the seared cabbage wedges back into the skillet, spooning the creamy sauce over them. Cover the skillet partially and cook for an additional 5 minutes on medium-low heat.
  8. After the cooking time, remove the lid and check the doneness; it should be fork-tender yet firm. Serve warm, garnished with extra parsley if desired.
