Ingredients

For the Truffle Mixture
  • 1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk Consider using skim or low-fat for a lighter option.
  • 1/2 cup Butter Use unsalted for better taste control.
  • 6 cups Powdered Sugar Reduce to 5 cups for a creamier filling based on preference.
  • 1 cup Chopped Walnuts (or Pecans) Toasting enhances their flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons Pure Maple Flavoring You can use maple syrup for a different flavor profile.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Choose pure over imitation for the best results.
For the Coating
  • 2 cups Milk Chocolate Chips Semi-sweet can be swapped for a slightly darker taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Oil of Choice Canola or coconut oil works well.

Equipment

  • Medium Saucepan
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Electric Mixer
  • Wax paper-lined baking sheet
  • microwave-safe bowl
  • Fork or dipping tool

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Melt the butter and condensed milk: In a medium saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk and butter over low heat. Stir constantly for about 5 minutes, until the butter is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  2. Mix in the sugar: In a large mixing bowl, sift the powdered sugar to eliminate any lumps, then gradually pour in the melted milk and butter mixture. Beat the mixture on low speed for about 2-3 minutes until you have a smooth, thick batter.
  3. Fold in flavorful ingredients: Gently fold in the chopped walnuts, pure maple flavoring, and vanilla extract into the mixture.
  4. Shape the truffle mixture: Scoop out roughly 1½ tablespoons of the mixture and roll it into smooth balls.
  5. Melt the chocolate coating: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the milk chocolate chips with a teaspoon of oil. Heat in the microwave in 45-second increments, stirring until the chocolate is completely melted.
  6. Dip the truffles: Using a fork or dipping tool, immerse each firm truffle into the melted chocolate.
  7. Allow to set: Let them sit at room temperature or in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to set completely.
  8. Store or serve: Once set, transfer the truffles to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.
